Ambrisentan is an endothelin receptor blocker. It works by inhibiting the action of endothelin (a natural substance that narrows blood vessels), which causes blood vessels to narrow. This contraction increases the pressure in the blood vessels of the lungs. Thus ambrisentan relaxes these blood vessels and increases the adequate supply of blood to the lungs.
