Mpride 2 Tablet Composition :-

This bilayer tablet contains a combination of two oral anti-hyperglycemic drugs.

Glimepiride .................................. 2 mg

 
Metformin Hydrochloride ......... 500 mg
( in prolonged release form )

Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea and metformin is a biguanide, Both of these are antidiabetic drugs.

Mpride 2 Tablet Uses :-

To treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (non-insulin dependent) in adults patients.

This combination medicine (glimepiride and metformin hydrochloride) is used to help control high blood sugar levels in adult patients (over 18 years of age).

When diet, exercise, single combination drug are not effective in controlling blood glucose levels, then combination drugs are used.

Mpride 2 Tablet Dosage :-

This tablet should be taken as directed by a diabetic specialist.

Use it exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than was directed by your doctor. It should be taken before or with food. Never self-medicate or change the dosage without consulting a doctor.

Do not change the dosage or take 2 or more doses at the same time without consulting your doctor, and always try to take this medicine on a fixed schedule.

Always take this medicine at prescribed time and always, even if you feel well or if your blood sugar level is controlled. Do not stop taking it without your doctor's advice, or your blood sugar level may rise again. Do not stop taking this ( Glimepiride & Metformin and combination medicine ) without asking your doctor.

Because treatment for diabetes is lifelong.

How Does Mpride 2 Tablet ( Glimepiride & Metformin ) Work :-

This tablet is a combination of two antihyperglycemic drugs: Glimepiride and Metformin.

When single combination drugs are ineffective in controlling blood glucose levels, than combination drugs are used.
These combination drugs then help to work by different mechanisms to provide better control of blood sugar. 

Glimepiride in this medicine is a sulfonylurea which works by lowering the blood sugar by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas.

Metformin increases the body's sensitivity to insulin by reducing the production of glucose in the liver and delaying the absorption of glucose from the intestines.

Thus both these medicines ( Glimepiride & Metformin ) help in reducing the level of blood sugar.

Some Common Side Effects :
Cold-like symptoms,
Headache,
Urinary tract infection,
Diarrhea,
Nausea,
Vomiting,
Abdominal bloating or flatulence,
Anorexia,
Pain  in the arms or legs,
Accommodation changes and/or blurred vision and decrease in blood cell count etc. These are not its full side effects, there can be other side effects as well.

Some Precautions :-

• Taking this tablet with other antidiabetic medicines, with alcohol, or if you delay or miss a meal may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level).

• If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in Metformin plus glimepiride combination medicine.

• If you have metabolic acidosis (too much acid in body fluids) such as lactic acidosis, diabetic pre-coma, or diabetic ketoacidosis.

• Before taking this tablet, tell your doctor that you,

Patients with kidney disease, liver failure, lung or heart failure, or have had a recent heart attack or stroke.

• If you take it with other antidiabetic medicines, or exercise more or with wine, medicine can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) if you delay or miss a meal. Therefore, one should always check the blood sugar level regularly. If you experience any symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level), eat something sweet or drink fruit juice.

• Pregnant women or lactating women tell their doctor by taking this tablet.

• If you are taking prescription or, non-prescription medicine such as vitamins and herbal supplements. So tell your doctor about all these medicines.

• If you experience symptoms of hypoglycemic such as chills, sweating, pale skin, shivering and anxiety, you should eat something sweet or drink fruit juice.

It is unsafe to consume alcohol after taking this tablet. It can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when this tablet is used with alcohol.

Is Mpride 2 tablet safe to use during pregnancy?

Please consult your doctor. This tablet should not be used during pregnancy as it may harm the unborn baby.

Is Mpride 2 tablet safe to use during breastfeeding?

For lactating women or during lactation use only if prescribed by a doctor. Because it is unsafe to use during breastfeeding, or breastfeeding should be discontinued.

Is Mpride 2 tablet safe for kidney disease?

This diabetic tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease.

Is Mpride 2 tablet safe for liver disease?

This combination tablet ( glimepiride and metformin ) should be used with caution in patients with liver disease.
