• What is Adapalene used for?

Adapalene is prescribed for the treatment of acne vulgaris in patients of 12 years of age and above.

Dosage forms & Strength :-

Adapalene 0.1% w/w. For external skin use only. 

What is Adapalene used for :-

Adapalene is used to treat Acne vulgaris in adolescents and adults.
Adapalene is useful for the dermal treatment of mild to moderate acne where comedones, pustules and papules predominate.
Useful for acne treatment of face, back or chest.
Adapalene contains the ingredients adapalene which is a third generation topical retinoid Adapalene has anti-comedogenic, comedolytic and anti-inflammatory properties.

How to Use Adapalene :-

Adapalene is a prescription medicine.
Adapalene for external use only.
Adapalene should be applied to the acne affected areas once a day.
A thin layer of gel should be applied with fingertips avoiding eyes and lips.
Take special care that the affected skin area is dry before application.
Adapalene is usually applied at night, as exposure to sunlight after applying Edaferin Gel may cause skin irritation.
It is therefore advised to use treated skin sunscreen when stepping out during the day.
You may notice an increase in acne breakouts in the first weeks of using Adapalene.
Do not discontinue treatment with Adapalene because of this.
Results will usually be available after eight to twelve weeks of treatment.
If the condition of acne does not improve or gets worse, you should consult your doctor.

What are the side effects of Adapalene?

Like all medicines, Adapalene can cause side effects, however not everyone may experience these side effects.
• Hypersensitivity
• Burning and stinging
• Redness of skin
• Dry or scaly skin
If you undergo any side-effects, inform to your doctor.
Most of these side effects are short term and get resolved with time. Although, if any of these side effects do not resolve with time or get poor, take a doctor's consultation as soon as possible.

Precautions & Warnings :-

• Adapalene is not for use in children under 12 years of age.
• If Adapalene is overused, no faster or better results will occur and marked redness, peeling, or discomfort may occur.
• If skin sensitivity or severe irritating reaction occurs after or during application of Adapalene, then application of Adapalene should be stopped.
• Adapalene should not come into contact with the eyes, mouth, angles of the nose, or mucous membranes.
• If Adapalene accidentally gets in the eyes, then immediately wash the eyes with warm water.
Adapalene should not be applied to broken (cuts and abrasions) sunburns or eczematous skin.
• Adapalene should not be used on large areas of the body with severe acne.
• Exposure to sunlight and UV light radiation should be avoided while using Adapalene.
Avoid exposure to excessive sunlight or UV radiation.
• Adapalene is contraindicated in pregnancy or in women who are planning a pregnancy.
• There is limited clinical experience of adapalene in pregnancy, so do not use Adapalene during pregnancy. If Adapalene is used during pregnancy, or if she becomes pregnant during treatment with Adapalene, treatment should be discontinued.
• The systemic exposure of a lactating woman to Adapalene is negligible so Adapalene can be used during breastfeeding. To avoid exposure to the infant, application of Adapalene to the chest should be avoided during breast-feeding.
