Luramax 40 Tablet consists of : Lurasidone Hydrochloride 40 mg.
Lurasidone Hydrochloride is an atypical antipsychotic.

Luramax 40 Tablet Uses :-

Luramax 40 Tablet is an antipsychotic medication. Luramax 40 Tablet is used in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Luramax 40 Tablet is used in the treatment of Schizophrenia, a type of schizophrenia which affects the patient's ability to think, behave and feel.

Take Luramax 40 Tablet properly as your doctor tells you to take it.
The recommended starting dose of Luramax 40 tablet is once daily.
Luramax 40 tablet is to be taken with food.
Taking Luramax 40 Tablet with food increases the absorption substantially.
The effectiveness of Luramax 40 tablets for prolonged use beyond 6 weeks is not established.
Don't cut, crush, or chew the Luramax 40 Tablet.

Luramax 40 Tablet Side-effects :-

Like all medicines, Luramax 40 Tablet can cause side effects, however not everyone may experience these side effects.
• Nausea,
• Somnolence,
• Extrapyramidal symptoms,
• Muscle tremors, feeling of restlessness and inability to sit still,
Most of these side effects are short term and get resolved with time. Although, if any of these side effects do not resolve with time or get poor, take a doctor's consultation as soon as possible.

How Luramax 40 Tablet Works :-

Luramax 40 Tablet consists of : Lurasidone Hydrochloride.
Lurasidone affects the dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain. Lurasidone works by blocking the dopamine pathway, thereby reducing the adverse effects of schizophrenia. In addition, lurasidone also acts on other neurotransmitters such as serotonin, which causes its effects such as enhancing mood and regulating dopamine pathways. Apart from this, lurasidone acts on many other receptors as well.

Precautions & Warnings :-

• Luramax 40 Tablet is not recommended for use in patients less than 13 years of age, for the treatment of schizophrenia.
• Luramax 40 Tablet is not recommended for use in patients less than 10 years of age for the treatment of bipolar depression.
• Use of Luramax 40 Tablet is not recommended in elderly patients suffering from dementia-related psychosis due to the increased risk of death.
• Luramax 40 Tablet is not recommended for use in patients receiving therapy with Ketoconazole, Clarithromycin, Voriconazole.
• Luramax 40 Tablet is not recommended for use in patients receiving therapy with Rifampin, Phenytoin, Carbamazepine.
• Luramax 40 Tablet is not recommended for use in pregnant women, unless absolutely necessary.
• Luramax 40 Tablet is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women, unless absolutely necessary.
• Luramax 40 Tablet may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts in some patients. Therefore, it is advisable to consult a doctor if you experience any change in behavior or mood.
• Luramax 40 tablet can cause tardive dyskinesia in some patients. This can cause symptoms such as involuntary movements of the tongue, lips and face.
• Luramax 40 Tablet should be used with caution due to an increased risk of high blood sugar levels.

• Luramax 40 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with a known history of prolonged QTc interval. Any unusual symptoms like difficulty in breathing, change in heart rate should consult your doctor.
• Luramax 40 Tablet may cause blurred vision, dizziness, trouble sleeping in some patients, so it is advisable not to drive or operate machinery if you experience any of these symptoms .
• Luramax 40 Tablet may interact with other medications such as: atazanavir, bupropion, fluconazole, codeine or erythromycin etc.
• Luramax 40 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with a known history of seizure disorder.
• Luramax 40 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with known history of diabetes due to increased risk of high blood glucose levels. Close monitoring of blood glucose levels is recommended for diabetic patients.
• Luramax 40 tablet is not recommended for use in patients suffering from psychosis associated with dementia.
• Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS)
Luramax 40 Tablet is not recommended for use in patients with known history of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS).
• Consumption of grapefruit juice is not recommended during treatment with Luramax 40 Tablet.
• Taking Luramax 40 Tablet with food increases the absorption substantially.
• The effectiveness of Luramax 40 tablets for prolonged use beyond 6 weeks is not established.
