Rifaximin Uses :
Rifaximin is an antibiotic.
Rifaximin (200 mg and 400 mg) is used to treat bacterial infections.
Rifaximin (200 mg and 400 mg) is used to treat traveller's diarrhoea (an intestinal infection that happens as a result of eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water while travelling) which is caused due to E. coli bacteria.
Rifaximin 550 is use for treating hepatic encephalopathy (a decline in brain function that happens due to the build-up of toxins in the blood as a result of critical liver disease) and irritable bowel syndrome. (a gastrointestinal disorder that give rise to pain in the abdomen and changes in bowel movements).
Rifaximin Dosage :-
Rifaximin is a prescription medicine. Rifaximin can be taken with or without food, as advised by your doctor.
Rifaximin dose or duration and treatment will be decided by your doctor.
It is better to take Rifaximin at a fixed time every day.
If you miss a dose of Rifaximin, take Rifaximin as soon as you remember.

• Rifaximin can give rise to diarrhoea because it can also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Tell your doctor if you undergo critical diarrhoea while taking Rifaximin.
• Antibiotic resistance take place when bacteria develop the capacity to defeat the medicine that was intended to kill them. So, finish your full course of treatment with Rifaximin even if your condition gets better after a few doses to avoid antibiotic resistance.
• Rifaximin can give rise to dizziness. So, avoid driving vehicles or operating machines if you feel dizzy after taking Rifaximin.
• Rifaximin is not suggested for use in children below the age of 12 years for the treatment of traveller's diarrhoea.
• Due to the lack of safety data, Rifaximin must be used with caution if you have kidney problems. Inform your doctor before having Rifaximin.
• Rifaximin can kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine and lead to diarrhoea. Therefore use Rifaximin with very caution if you have stomach and intestinal problems, mostly colitis (swelling of the inner lining of the large intestine), as it may further worsen your condition.
• Rifaximin is broken down in the liver. So, it must be used carefully if you have serious liver problems.
• Do not take more or less than the suggested dose of Rifaximin. Take Rifaximin for the suggested duration to avoid the risk of re-infection that would be hard to treat in the future.
• Take Rifaximin at the same time daily for the ease of remembering. Inform your doctor immediately if you undergo any side effects that continue or worsen.
