Mucolytics

About Mucolytic :
Mucolytics means that mucus (sputum) is formed in our lungs. Mucolytics are medicines that make mucus less thick and sticky and make it easier to cough up. They are usually prescribed to people who have a chronic cough problem. Mucolytics help move mucus out of your lungs.

How do mucolytics work?
The mucus (sputum) in your lungs is held together by certain bonds. Mucolytics work by breaking these bonds. When these bonds are broken, the mucus is less viscous and less thick, and thus becomes easier to cough up.

When are mucolytics prescribed?
Mucolytics are usually prescribed for people who have a long-term (chronic) productive cough. The lungs of people with productive coughs make a lot of mucus (sputum), which causes them to cough. People with chronic productive cough include people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and people with cystic fibrosis.
