Low Blood Pressure (Hypotension) Symptoms Causes Treatment and Prevention

Low Blood Pressure ( Hypotension ) :-

Low blood pressure have a medical name hypotension. 
Low blood pressure take place when blood pressure is much lesser than the normal. This means the heart, brain, and other parts of the body do not get sufficient blood. Normal blood pressure is eventually between 90/60 mmHg and 120/80 mmHg.

Low Blood Pressure ( Hypotension ) Causes :-

Blood pressure differ from one person to another person. A drop as little as 20 mmHg, can give rise to problems for some people. There are many different types and causes of low blood pressure. 
Critical hypotension can be caused by immediate loss of blood (shock), critical infection, heart attack, or critical allergic reaction (anaphylaxis). 
Orthostatic hypotension is caused by a immediate change in body position. This take place most frequently when you shift from lying down to standing. This type of low blood pressure commonly stays only a few seconds or minutes. If this type of low blood pressure take place after eating, it is known as postprandial orthostatic hypotension. This type most frequently affects older adults, those with high blood pressure, and people with Parkinson disease. 
Neurally mediated hypotension (NMH) most   frequently affects young adults and children. It can happen when a person has been standing for a long period of time. Children normally outgrow this type of hypotension.

Certain medicines and substances can gove rise to low blood pressure, including : 
• Alcohol,
• Anti-anxiety medicines,
• Certain antidepressants,
• Diuretics,
• Heart medicines, involving those used to treat high blood pressure and coronary heart disease,
• Medicines used for surgery,
• Painkillers.

Other causes of low blood pressure involve : 
• Nerve damage from diabetes,
• Changes in heart rhythm (arrhythmias),
• Not drinking enough water or any fluid (dehydration),
• Heart failure.

Symptoms of low blood pressure may include : 
• Blurry vision,
• Confusion,
• Dizziness,
• Fainting (syncope),
• Lightheadedness,
• Nausea or vomiting,
• Sleepiness,
• Weakness.

Low Blood Pressure ( Hypotension ) Complications :-

Falls due to low blood pressure in older adults can give rise  to a broken hip or spine fracture. These injuries can lower a person’s health and capacity to move about. 
Immediate critical drops in your blood pressure starves your body of oxygen. This can cause damage of the heart, brain, and other organs. This type of low blood pressure can be life threatening if it has been not treated on right time.

Low Blood Pressure ( Hypotension ) Treatment :-

Lower than normal blood pressure in a healthy person that does not lead any symptoms frequently does not need any treatment. Otherwise, treatment depends on the cause of your low blood pressure and your symptoms. 
When you have symptoms from a drop in blood pressure, sit or lie down at that time. Then lift your feet above heart level. 
Critical hypotension caused by shock is a medical emergency. You can be provide: 
• Blood from a needle (IV),
• Medicines to higher blood pressure and improve heart strength,
• Other medicines, like antibiotics.
Treatments for low blood pressure after standing up too fastly include: 
• If medicines are the cause, your doctor can change the dosage or give you a different drug. Dont stop taking any medicines before talking to your doctor.
• Your provider can prefer you to drink more fluids to treat dehydration. 
• Wearing compression stockings can help keep blood from gathering in the legs. This keeps blood more in the upper body. 
People with NMH should avoid activator, like keep standing for a long  time. Other treatments involve drinking fluids and increasing the amount of salt in your diet. Talk to your doctor before trying these measures. In critical cases, medicines can be recommended.

Low Blood Pressure ( Hypotension ) Prevention :-

Your doctor may suggest certain steps to cure or lower your symptoms including: 
• Drinking more fluids,
• Get up slowly after sitting or lying down,
• Stop drinking alcohol,
• Avoid standing for a long time (if you have NMH),
• Using compression stockings so blood does not gather in the legs.

How to Relieve Low Blood Pressure ( Hypotension ) Symptoms Yourself :-

Do -
• You should get up slowly from sitting to standing,
•  Take care while getting up from bed  move slowly from lying to sitting to standing,
• Lift the head of your bed by about 15cm (6 inches) with bricks or heavy books,
• Eat small, frequent meals lying down or sitting still for a while after eating can also help,
• Increase the amount of water you drink.
Don’t -
• You should not sit or stand for long time,
• you should not bend down or change posture immediately,
• Avoid drinking caffeinated drinks at night,
• Stop drinking too much alcohol.
