Durea Capsule is prescribed for the treatment of sickle cell anemia and head and neck cancer.
Durea Capsule Composition :-
Durea Capsule consists of : Hydroxyurea 500 mg.
Hydroxyurea is a antimetabolites.
Durea Capsule Uses :-
Durea Capsule is an anti-cancer medicine. Durea capsule is used alone or in combination with other cancer drugs or radiotherapy in the treatment of various chronic myeloid leukemias and cancers of the head, neck and cervix. Durea capsule is used to reduce painful crisis and the need for blood transfusions in adults with sickle cell anemia and in children 2 years of age and older.
Durea Capsule is used for the treatment of :
• Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) :
Durea Capsule is used in the treatment of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML). Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is a type of cancer that affects the blood cells and bone marrow.
• Head & Neck Cancer :
Durea Capsule is used in the treatment of cancer affecting the head and neck.
• Cervical Cancer :
Durea Capsule is used in the treatment of cancer affecting the cervix.
• Sickle Cell Anemia :
Durea Capsule is used to reduce the pain crises in sickle cell anemia, sickle cell anemia is a genetic disease affecting the blood cells.
Durea Capsule Dosage :-
Durea Capsule is a prescription medicine.
Take Durea Capsule properly as your doctor tells you to take it.
Do take Durea Capsule one time a day.
Do take Durea Capsule with food or without food.
Don't cut, crush, or chew the Durea Capsule.
Dose of Durea Capsule depends on several factors such as your weight, general health or other health problems, and the type of cancer or condition being treated. Accordingly your doctor will determine your dosage and schedule.
Durea Capsule Side-effects :-
Common side effects of Durea Capsule:
• Nausea,
• Low blood counts,
• Gastrointestinal symptoms,
• Anorexia,
These are not all the possible side effects of Durea Capsule. Consult your doctor and if you have any new or worsening side effects.
Precautions & Warnings :-
• Not recommended in patients with known allergy to the constituent hydroxyurea of Durea capsule or any other inactive ingredients present along with it.
• Durea capsule is not recommended for use in pregnant women due to the increased risk of birth defects.
• Durea capsule is not recommended for use in patients having bone marrow suppression due to an increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.
• Durea Capsule is not recommended for use in pregnant women, unless absolutely necessary. All risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before starting the treatment with Durea Capsule.
• Durea Capsule is not recommended for use in women who are breastfeeding. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before using Durea Capsule. Depending on your clinical condition, your doctor may recommend discontinuing the drug or discontinuing breastfeeding.
• Durea Capsule causes bone marrow suppression which decreases the white blood cell count (neutrophils) and platelets. The blood cell count should be closely monitored.
• Durea Capsule can cause secondary cancers especially leukemia and skin cancer. Signs and symptoms should be closely monitored.
• Exposure to sunlight or tanning beds should be avoided during treatment with Durea Capsule. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) if you go out in the sun.
• Durea Capsule can cause blood vessel toxicity such as vasculitic ulceration and gangrene, especially in patients receiving interferon therapy.
• Durea Capsule is not recommended for use in combination with antiretroviral agents for the HIV disease.
• Pregnancy should be avoided during treatment with Durea Capsule and by using birth control methods for 6-12 months following treatment.
• Durea Capsule may cause dizziness in some patients. Therefore it is advised not to drive or operate machinery in case you experience dizziness during treatment with Durea Capsule.
• Durea Capsule interacts with other medicine such as :
- Live attenuated vaccines and related products,
- Etanercept
- Didanosine
- Ddalimumab
- Clozapine etc.
• Durea Capsule should be used with caution in patients suffering from kidney diseases due to an increased risk of serious adverse effects.
• Durea Capsule should be used with caution in patients having seizures as it may increase the risk of worsening of the patient's condition.
• Durea Capsule should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver diseases due to an increased risk of adverse effects.
• Durea capsule should be used with caution in patients with brain disorders due to an increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.
