Elidel Cream is prescribed for the treatment of skin problems such as eczema or atopic dermatitis.

Elidel Cream Composition :-

Elidel Cream consists of : Pimecrolimus 1% w/w.
Pimecrolimus is a calcineurin inhibitors.

Elidel Cream Uses :-

Elidel Cream is used in the prevention of allergies.
Elidel Cream is used to treat allergy symptoms such as swelling, itching, redness, warmth and pain caused by certain skin problems such as eczema or atopic dermatitis (itchy, cracked, swollen or rough skin).

Elidel Cream Dosage :-

Elidel Cream is a prescription medicine. Elidel Cream is for external use only. Clean and dry the area which is affected before applying Elidel Cream.
Apply a thin layer of Elidel Cream to the affected skin twice a day.
Continuous long-term use of Elidel Cream should be avoided.

Elidel Cream Side-effects :-

Like all medicines, Elidel Cream can cause side effects, however not everyone may experience these side effects.
Side effects of Elidel Cream :
• Burning,
• Itching, 
• Redness at the application,
Most of these side effects are short term and get resolved with time. Although, if any of these side effects do not resolve with time or get poor, take a doctor's consultation as soon as possible.

How Elidel Cream Work :-

Elidel Cream contains pimecrolimus. Pimecrolimus is a calcineurin inhibitors. Pimecrolimus blocks the immune system's production of chemicals that cause eczema.
Thus, Elidel Cream treats the skin problems such as eczema or atopic dermatitis.

Precautions & Warnings :-

• Avoid using Elidel Cream if you have allergy to pimecrolimus.
• If symptoms (eg, itching, rash, and redness) subside, You should stop using Elidel Cream.
• Continuous long-term use of Elidel Cream should be avoided.
• It is inappropriate to consume alcohol while using Elidel Cream. This can make your skin red, which may feel hot.
• Before starting treatment with Elidel Cream, tell your doctor if you have a weakened (immunocompromised) immune system, erythroderma or Netherton's syndrome skin condition that affects the skin, hair, and immune system) and skin rash (tumor ), and skin infections (including chickenpox or ringworm).
• Do not use Elidel Cream on areas of skin affected by an active viral infection such as a cold sore (herpes simplex) or chickenpox.
• It is advised that pregnant women or nursing mothers should consult a doctor before using Elidel Cream.
• Elidel Cream is not recommended for use in children less than 2 years of age.
• Avoid using Elidel Cream on open wounds, windburns, sunburns, irritated or dry skin.
• Avoid exposure to sunlight, sun lamps and tanning beds while using Elidel Cream. If you do go out after applying Elidel Cream, wear loose-fitting clothing, use sunscreen, and spend as little time in the sun as possible.
• Drug interactions
Antifungal drugs such as, fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole etc. to Elidel Cream
calcium channel blockers such as diltiazem, verapamil etc., antiulcers such as cimetidine, etc.,
Antibiotics such as clarithromycin, erythromycin, troleandomycin and metronidazole, etc.
May interact with androgenic hormones such as danazol.
immunosuppressants such as, cyclosporine,
HIV protease inhibitors such as indinavir, ritonavir, delavirdine,
anti-TB such as isoniazid,
antidepressants such as, nefazodone, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine,
Oral contraceptives birth control pills etc.
• Pregnancy
Elidel Cream is a category C pregnancy medication. Elidel Cream is to be used only when doctor thinks that the benefit outweighs the risk.
• Breastfeeding
It is as yet unknown if Elidel Cream is excreted in human milk. Elidel Cream is to be used in breastfeeding mothers only if the doctor thinks the benefits outweigh the risks.
• Dosage of Elidel Cream may be adjusted as required by the doctor in patients with a history of kidney or liver diseases/conditions.
• During treatment with Elidel Cream, consumption of food rich in probiotics helps in developing the immune system against allergies.
• During treatment with Elidel Cream, limit consumption of foods that may be allergic, such as dairy products, soy, eggs, and nuts.
• During treatment with Elidel Cream, one should avoid consuming foods high in sugar as it may increase the inflammation.
• During treatment with Elidel Cream, contact with harsh soaps, detergents and rough fabrics should be avoided.
• During treatment with Elidel Cream, use a mild soap while bathing and preferably a warm bath. Avoid using harsh products on your skin.
• During treatment with Elidel Cream, do not scratch or pick at your skin to prevent the affected area from becoming infected.
• If you have widespread eczema, Elidel Cream may need to be stopped before any vaccinations can be taken.
• If there is no improvement after using Elidel Cream for 2 weeks or if your eczema gets worse, consult your doctor.
• Do not use Elidel cream for long periods of time without a break unless prescribed by your doctor.
