Cholesterol Absorption Inhibitor

What are cholesterol absorption inhibitors?
Cholesterol absorption inhibitors reduce the absorption of dietary and biliary cholesterol through the intestines. Thus cholesterol absorption inhibitors reduce the amount of intestinal cholesterol that is delivered to the liver. The reduction of cholesterol levels in the liver results in an increase in hepatic LDL (low-density lipoprotein) receptor activity, and an increase in the clearance of LDL cholesterol.

Why are cholesterol absorption inhibitors used?
Cholesterol absorption inhibitors are used to treat hyperlipidemia, by lowering LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol.
