Adenosine triphosphate-citrate lyase (ACL) inhibitors are a class of drugs. It works by inhibiting the enzyme adenosine triphosphate-citrate lyase (ACL) which in turn inhibits the HMG-CoA enzyme.
It works by inhibiting the action of HMG-CoA reductase (which is essential in the formation of cholesterol). Helps reduce the level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or bad cholesterol and increases the level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or good cholesterol in the blood. Thus it slows down the production of cholesterol in the body and reduces the amount of cholesterol that builds up on the walls of the arteries.
