HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors

Statins are also known as HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. Statins are a class of lipid-lowering drugs that reduce morbidity and mortality in people at high risk of heart disease, and there are cholesterol-lowering drugs.

Statin drugs work by inhibiting the action of an enzyme, HMG-CoA reductase (which is essential in the formation of cholesterol). Helps reduce the level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or bad cholesterol and increases the level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or good cholesterol in the blood.
Thus it slows down the production of cholesterol in the body and reduces the amount of cholesterol that builds up on the walls of the arteries.
Thus it helps in reducing the increased cholesterol, reducing the chances of future heart attacks and other heart problems.

HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors drugs are such as :
Atorvastatin,
Simvastatin,
Pravastatin,
Lovastatin,
Fluvastatin,
Rosuvastatin,
